*Haryana Tourism Day Celebrated at Shaheed Smarak Government PG College, Tigaon*
Tigaon, September 1, 2025 – Shaheed Smarak Government PG College, Tigaon, vibrantly celebrated Haryana Tourism Day, showcasing the immense potential of tourism as a career and economic driver. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Chief Guest Prof. Ashish Dahiya, Director of the Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management, Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak. Prof. Sandeep Malik, Director of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Institute of Social and Economic Change, MDU, and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Associate Professor, IHTM, attended as Guests of Honour.
Principal Dr. C.S. Vashisht warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the college’s commitment to fostering tourism education. He announced the introduction of the Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM) program at the college this academic year, emphasizing that “tourism is full of opportunities” for students seeking dynamic careers. Dr. Vashisht underscored the college’s efforts to align with industry demands and equip students with relevant skills.
In his address, Chief Guest Prof. Ashish Dahiya emphasized the importance of 21st-century skills for excelling in the tourism sector. He highlighted Haryana’s pioneering contributions to tourism, citing three notable examples:
1. Haryana’s leadership in highway tourism, setting a benchmark for traveler-friendly infrastructure.
2. The state’s trailblazing academic initiatives, including India’s first Master’s Degree in Tourism Management in the early 1990s, the first Master’s Degree in Hotel Management in the early 2000s, and the groundbreaking Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Program in Tourism and Hospitality launched in 2025.
3. The globally renowned Surajkund Craft Mela, a shining example of cultural tourism from Haryana.
Prof. Sandeep Malik spoke on the vast global career opportunities in tourism and travel, urging students to leverage initiatives like the Government of India’s Dekho Apna Desh series to explore and promote domestic tourism. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar highlighted Haryana’s progress and the pivotal role of its tourism sector in driving economic and cultural growth.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Preeti Raina, Assistant Professor of Tourism. Faculty members, including Dr. Shashi, Dr. Savita Adhana, Mrs. Neelam Rani, and others, actively participated, making the celebration a resounding success. The program underscored the college’s dedication to nurturing skilled professionals for the tourism industry, aligning with Haryana’s legacy of innovation and excellence in the sector.
